NMR has recently acquired the Far Fanning Gold Mine and BlackJack Processing Plant, based in the Charters Towers region of Northern Queensland as part of a new and exciting transformational acquisition. The acquisitions provide extensive exploration potential, and a clear path to gold production with significant upside through resource growth opportunities. An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join our team at the foundational phase of this innovative new project. This role will be based in Charters Towers, North Queensland and reports to the Mining Operations Manager.
About the role The Senior Mining Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing and optimising the extraction processes for the gold mine. This position requires in-depth experience in open pit gold mining, with additional knowledge of underground operations being advantageous. The Senior Mining Engineer will manage mine design, pit optimisation, mine scheduling, and safety programs, while working closely with other departments such as geology and plant operations.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and optimise pit designs and mine plans to safely and efficiently extract gold deposits. Manage mine scheduling and maintenance planning. Advise on drilling and blasting techniques to ensure cost-effective and safe mining operations. Prepare detailed project estimates, schedules, and reports. Implement mine safety programs in compliance with statutory requirements. Supervise and coordinate the activities of junior engineers and other departmental staff. Collaborate with geology, plant operations, and environmental teams to address operational challenges proactively. Key Skills: NMR are seeking a proactive and results-oriented Senior Mining Engineer. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong skill set in mining engineering who are ready to contribute to optimising mine design and processes. You will support integrated planning processes for mining operations, ensuring that production and development meet defined targets.
Strong proficiency in pit optimisation and mine design software. Ability to lead safety initiatives and manage compliance with regulatory requirements. Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Problem-solving mindset with a focus on proactive environmental management. Qualifications and Experience: Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. At least 8-10 years of experience in gold mining, with a focus on open pit operations. Strong understanding of mine scheduling, safety protocols, and drilling/blasting methodologies. SSE (Site Senior Executive) certification is preferred.
