About the Role The Young Men's Specialist provides targeted, individualized counselling and case management support to participants of the Breaking the Cycle program, a 6–12-month intensive initiative addressing the impacts of domestic, family, and sexual violence. The role involves:
Trauma-Informed and Attachment-Based Interventions: Engaging with young men using a holistic therapeutic model informed by trauma care principles, attachment theory, strengths-based counseling, and feminist practice.Outreach and Onsite Support: Delivering support both within our service sites and in outreach settings that meet the individual needs of each participant.Safety and Risk Management: Conducting ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, and collaborative case coordination to ensure each young man's safety and engagement with the program.Key Responsibilities Direct Service Delivery: Provide trauma-informed, attachment-based interventions; complete risk assessments and safety planning; and support participants in achieving individual goals through structured, goal-oriented engagement strategies.Case Management and Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams and key stakeholders, including YFS, ISR, and HRT partners, to maintain clear referral pathways and deliver a comprehensive, integrated response to domestic and family violence.Administrative Support: Maintain accurate data collection, report outcomes, and engage in all required administrative tasks associated with client service delivery.Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in training, reflective practice, and team supervision to continually enhance service delivery and maintain alignment with best practices.Qualifications and Experience Required: Tertiary Qualifications & Experience: Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in the human services sector.Domestic & Family Violence Framework Knowledge: In-depth understanding of a domestic and family violence (DFV) framework grounded in a gendered analysis of men's violence against women, recognizing DFV as a manifestation and driver of power imbalances.Trauma-Informed Case Management: Proven experience in trauma-informed case management, particularly in empowering young people who have experienced DFV or sexual violence.Interpersonal Communication Skills: Strong ability to engage effectively with young people, families, education providers, and other community practitioners, including individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collaborative, harmonious team environment.Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related IT programs.Legislative Knowledge: Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire, an understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012, including relevant court and legislative processes.Additional Requirements:
