The township is not an Outback tourist destination but a successful, largely Indigenous, community being the traditional homelands of the Gangalidda and Waanyi people, and is governed by the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council . Many other people from Indigenous nations across Australia have also made Doomadgee their home including the Garrawa and Yunjulla people.

Your primary role will be as the sole doctor providing clinical care for the community. As such you will be seeing patients in 3 clinical settings: firstly, in a primary care clinic; secondly in the Emergency Department; and thirdly as in-patients on the ward.
Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences; evidence of these will be required prior to appointment. Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful candidate. VPD risk roles may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis. This role may require a 6-month period of probation. The facility and location Doomadgee Hospital is a Level Two (2) remote hospital under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with seven (7) inpatient beds. The facility provides 24 hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care, as well as a GP clinic.
Culturally appropriate services are provided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, nursing, medical, administration and operational staff members working as a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient care and health outcomes.
Covering an area of 186,300 hectares, Doomadgee is located on the Nicholson River in the far north-western corner of Queensland, near the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Waanyi and Gangalidda people are recognised as the traditional owners for the region, which is a Deed of Grant in Trust community governed by the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council .
Many other people from Indigenous nations across Australia have also made Doomadgee their home including the Garrawa and Yunjulla people and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people make up 93.7 percent of the population of approximately 1405 people.
