This is a permanent, full time vacancy. ABOUT THE ROLE The Senior Legislative Policy Officer is an essential position that leads the State Administrative Tribunal's Legislation and Policy Team. This position reports directly to the Executive Manager and supports the Deputy Presidents and the President of the Tribunal with conferrals of new jurisdiction, legislative and administrative projects, business improvement initiatives and provides high level strategic direction, support and advice on a range of legislative issues and projects impacting on the delivery of the Tribunal services.
Additionally, this position actively manages business service improvement initiatives in response to a fast changing and dynamic environment with new legislative conferrals. The position has a key role in interpreting legislation (including regulations, rules and procedures) and managing the application and implementation of practices and procedures within a Tribunal or Court setting.
As head of the Legislation and Policy Team, the successful applicant will be expected to:
Maintain a system for the effective and timely management of new conferrals to the Tribunal that ensures staff are appropriately trained and skilled in the new responsibilities. Take lead responsibility by providing expert legislative advice on the effective management and resolution of complaints and issues relating to SAT, including ministerial responses, and oversight of any legislative changes or impacts on processes and resourcing of the SAT. Analyse legislative and regulatory issues, research reports, submissions and other relevant information and prepare summaries and advice. Provide advice to the President, Executive Manager and to Government on policy and law reform as it affects the administration of the SAT jurisdiction. Develop and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with members of the judiciary, the legal profession, Ministerial offices, Court staff and other stakeholders.
