Senior/Principal Legal Counsel based in Melbourne to join an internationally-listed technology (SaaS) business operating in the ecommerce space and take responsibility for commercial contract negotiations, data, privacy, IP, procurement and other general in-house topics for Australia and wider APAC. Flexible and hybrid working is on offer but please note, the role reports outside of APAC so applicants must be able to take meetings out of hours.

Key client information: Internationally listed technology and SaaS business that operates in retail/ecommerce space. 10+ year track record with consistent annual growth globally. Significant growth in Australia and across APAC. Description Legal Leadership and Expertise : Serve as a trusted strategic partner and subject matter expert for all commercial and legal matters, providing high-quality advice and overseeing legal operations related to the Solutions business.
Contract Management : Lead and supervise the drafting, negotiation, and management of domestic and international contracts, including procurement, technology, IP, and data protection agreements.
Team Development and Leadership : Manage, coach, and develop junior legal team members to ensure timely, commercial, and strategic legal support.
Risk and Compliance Oversight : Anticipate and advise on IP, competition, and data protection issues, ensure compliance with corporate governance, and manage legal disputes and regulatory matters.
Operational Efficiency and Improvement : Contribute to the development of the legal team's strategy, create standard templates, improve legal processes, and manage legal budgets, particularly within APAC operations.
Profile Qualified lawyer with at least 10 years' post-qualification experience, specialising in commercial and technology contracts/transactions. Experience advising on commercial and technology law across APAC, with a focus on IP, data protection, and transactions. Proven track record of working with senior management, including executive and board levels, in complex environments. Extensive experience in drafting, negotiating, and advising on cross-border commercial contracts, including technology investments, IT procurement, and licensing agreements. Strong business judgement, client counselling skills, and excellent academic qualifications. Preferred experience in management, technology/engineering organisations, in-house legal teams, corporate transactions, and antitrust/competition law.
