About the Role:
We are excited to announce that we are inviting applications for a role in alignment with our Legal team – a Senior Legal Counsel. Reporting into our General Counsel, this role is responsible for providing legal expertise and support to the Company in relation to construction, procurement, engineering consultancy and commercial property transactions. The role will also have a responsibility to provide strategic legal advice, contract drafting and negotiation to support the Company's projects.
This role is based in our Perth office on a 5:2 (Monday to Friday) roster, and the purpose of this role will be provide assistance for a period of Parental Leave.
Responsibilities include:
Providing advice to Talison Lithium on a broad range of matters including legal responsibilities, disputes and regulatory compliance;
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of contracts including services agreements, equipment and material procurement, development agreements, design and construct, construct only, engineering and consultancy services agreements;
Providing strategic advice on different contract and delivery models;
Preparation/review of formal documentation to protect Talison Lithium's legal standing;
Developing and modifying policies and procedures as required based on legislative changes or business requirements;
Identifying, briefing and engaging specialist legal advice (where required); and
Proactively monitoring and advising on changes in law that are likely to impact Talison Lithium.
About the Candidate:
The following qualification/s and competencies are considered essential for this position:
Tertiary degree in law from a common law jurisdiction;
8+ years PQE as a construction / major projects lawyer, particularly with an infrastructure, resources or energy focus;
Currently hold, or be eligible to hold, a practicing certificate in WA;
Exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills; demonstrate the ability to build effective partnerships with people;
Excellent organizational skills; and
Prepared to understand stakeholder positions and can navigate diverse and complex situations.
The incumbent should have the following skills and/or experience:
Extensive legal experience with previous exposure to the resources industry gained from previous in-house and/or private practice positions;
Substantial knowledge and experience in several of the following areas: legal and commercial negotiations, contract, construction, environment, employment and mining law;
Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication skills and attention to detail;
Ability to manage competing priorities and escalations;
Ability to provide commercially focused legal support;
Ability to build strong working relationships across the Company; and
Strong work ethic and the capability to work with initiative and independence.
