The opportunity:Powerlink is the electricity transmission network service provider dedicated to delivering reliable, safe, and sustainable electricity to Queenslanders. We are seeking an exceptional Senior Legal Counsel with expertise in the energy sector, including strong knowledge of the NER, to join our growing legal team. This isn't just any legal role—it's an opportunity to be at the forefront of the renewable energy transition for Queensland.
As our Senior Legal Counsel, you will:
Oversee the provision of legal advice in relation to the network connection and compliance requirements of TNSPs, generators and load customers in the National Electricity Market (including connection arrangements and access policies)Advise on the development and implementation of Renewable Energy Zone legislative frameworksDraft and manage commercial contracts, network support agreements and advise on energy regulation, including the National Electricity Law and RulesProvide innovative legal solutions for contract governance, process improvement and the development of governance policies and proceduresLiaise with senior leaders, managers, employees within the (government-owned) corporation, external legal advisers, electricity industry entities, regulatory bodies, Government agencies and external contacts such as local government bodies and contractors as requiredWhat you'll bring:Bachelor of Laws with significant post-admission experience and a current Queensland Law Society practising certificateYou will have a robust background in commercial law, whether in an in-house role or as a senior practitioner in a legal practice. Experience as an electricity lawyer, with a solid understanding of the National Electricity Rules, is essential for this role.
Additionally, you should excel in contract drafting, particularly with Connection and Access arrangements. Strong stakeholder management skills are also crucial for effective collaboration with various parties involved.
The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills to effectively reach agreements and have a deep understanding of the public sector, including regulatory agencies that impact the corporation.
