Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor (Foundation Years Coordinator) Based in Broome Campus Academic Level (C/ D) Part Time (0.1 minimum) Fixed Term 30th June 2026 (with the expectation to extend) • New program to establish the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) • Rewarding opportunity to be part of the foundation leadership team • Negotiable Remuneration: Competitive salary + 14% super + remote allowance & 2 weeks additional leave (pro-rata). ABOUT THE MEDICAL TRAINING CENTRE Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) is a Commonwealth funded, end-to-end rural medical program based on the University's Broome campus. KCRMT is one of the components that forms the University's RHMT program which sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences. The aim of KCRMT is to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. This is achieved through health research and the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in the Kimberley. The program will transform the Broome campus, Kimberley, and Pilbara regions and develop the medical workforce in the region.
ABOUT THE ROLE This position oversees and assists with the delivery of the first two years of the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) Program and will be responsible for promoting key stakeholders within the Kimberley, Pilbara, and rural/regional Western Australia. This position reports to the Professorial chair, KCRMT.
Key Responsibilities Coordinate the delivery of the Year 1 and 2 (Foundation Years) curriculum for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, including tutorials, staff and student placements, and teaching and assessment duties. Oversee administrative responsibilities for academic and professional staff and students of the RHMT funded pathway, ensuring compliance with the RHMT grant, and reporting to the Executive Dean, FMNMHS. Support the development and delivery of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), clinical skills, and other relevant tutorials, including the preparation and revision of School documentation and Course Handbooks. Supervise and oversee KCRMT program tutors, including recruitment, peer review of teaching, professional development activities, and providing leave relief during the academic year. Coordinate student placements, manage rosters, ensure curriculum consistency, and provide pastoral care to medical students in collaboration with Tutors, KCRMT staff, and the Head of Student Matters. Lead tutor sessions planning and debriefing, assist in student assessments and examinations, and provide feedback and advice on curriculum delivery to key stakeholders within the National School. ABOUT YOU Level C (Senior Lecturer) - A Level C Academic Employee is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An Academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Possession of a medical or professional health degree registrable with AHPRA is desirable, not mandatory. Experience in teaching at the Masters level or higher, or in medical, health, or professional practice-based education settings. Proven knowledge and understanding of medical education. Commitment to pastoral care of students. Strong leadership and management qualities. Understanding of Indigenous health, experience in building relationships with the Indigenous community, and promoting rural health. Excellent networking skills with rural key stakeholders, organisations, and the health system. Level D (Associate Professor) - A Level D Academic Employee will possess the same skill base as a Level C Academic Employee, with a requirement for academic excellence, as evidenced by outstanding achievements in their field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Possession of a medical or professional health degree registrable with AHPRA is desirable, not mandatory. Experience in teaching at the Masters level or higher, or in medical, health, or professional practice-based education settings. Advanced knowledge and understanding of medical education. Demonstrated commitment to the pastoral care of students. Proven leadership and management qualities. Experience in promoting rural health and building relationships with Indigenous communities, alongside excellent networking skills with rural key stakeholders, organisations, and the health system.
