As an experienced transactions lawyer, you will also liaise with bankers, engage with other stakeholders (where appropriate) and communicate with external legal counsel, particularly to ensure that appropriate closing signoffs are provided. As a Senior Lawyer, you will also contribute to the leadership, knowledge management, operational effectiveness and culture of the Practice Group and Legal Function.
Your key responsibilities will be:

Independently advise, draft documents and assist in negotiation of transactions in compliance with laws, policies and requirements.
Ensure external legal resources are properly and efficiently selected and used.
Provide insight to Business Lending business partners on, and guide implementation of, external advice.
Ensure outputs produced by external counsel comply with our policies and requirements.
Partner with the Business Lending line of business in maintaining awareness of relevant regulatory requirements.
Work closely with other lawyers in Westpac's wider Legal & Secretariat function and other stakeholders to deliver high quality outcomes.

What do I need?
You hold appropriate tertiary qualifications and professional accreditation (admitted as a solicitor/legal practitioner in Australia) with substantial (at least 12-15 years post admission experience) holding an unrestricted Australian practising certificate. As an experienced lawyer, you have substantial financial services and deal/transaction expertise developed over a sustained period of practice within a commercial environment. You hold extensive experience in Business and Corporate lending laws and regulations.
To be successful in the role, you will have excellent communication and influencing skills.
