Senior Lawyer Westpac Banking Corporation Sydney, Australia Job DescriptionHow will I help?As part of a Practice Group and reporting to the Practice Group Head, your role as a Senior Lawyer, Business Lending, will help the Westpac Group and our business partners deliver great outcomes for our customers and achieve their goals through exceptional legal advice and services, risk and management and leadership behaviours. You will apply your breadth and depth of expertise in the law to work independently on complex matters with senior business stakeholders across our Business Lending business to achieve their business goals. You will be working closely with Business Lending to independently provide transactional support on business lending matters, assisting as part of a deal team.As a Senior Lawyer, you will review, deliver, comment and advise on facility agreements, common terms deeds, security trust deeds, security documents and ancillary documentation as required. You will advise the business on various matters, for example deal structuring, security considerations, compliance with internal requirements, conditions precedent, legal and regulatory impacts in the context of the deal, and Business Lending's commercial considerations. As an experienced transactions lawyer, you will also liaise with bankers, engage with other stakeholders (where appropriate) and communicate with external legal counsel, particularly to ensure that appropriate closing signoffs are provided. As a Senior Lawyers, you will also contribute to the leadership, knowledge management, operational effectiveness and culture of the Practice Group and Legal Function.Your key responsibilities will be:Independently advise, draft documents and assist in negotiation of transactions in compliance with laws, policies and requirements.Ensure external legal resources are properly and efficiently selected and used.Provide insight to Business Lending business partners on, and guide implementation of, external advice.Ensure outputs produced by external counsel comply with our policies and requirements.Partner with the Business Lending line of business in maintaining awareness of relevant regulatory requirements.Work closely with other lawyers in Westpac's wider Legal & Secretariat function and other stakeholders to deliver high quality outcomes.What's in it for me?You'll play a significant part of the future of a business that has been around for 200 years. And we continue to pay your super contributions while you take all the time you need to get your new family settled.What do I need?You hold an appropriate tertiary qualifications and professional accreditation (admitted as a solicitor/legal practitioner in Australia) with substantial (at least 12-15 years post admission experience) holding an unrestricted Australian practising certificate. As an experienced lawyer, you have substantial financial services and deal/transaction expertise developed over a sustained period of practice within a commercial environment. You hold extensive experience in Business and Corporate lending laws and regulations.To be successful in the role, you will have excellent communication and influencing skills. You have the intellect, agility, strong personal judgement, decision-making and problem-solving skills to build effective and trusted relationships. You are comfortable managing competing demands and can utilize effective project and self-management techniques.
