Senior Lawyer, Institutional Capital Reforms Program

Details of the offer

About Us At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our customers.
Our Institutional bank helps our largest customers move trade and capital around the region, providing our people with great opportunities to build their technical expertise and their careers.
About the Role In July 2022, the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA) finalized a new bank capital framework for authorized deposit-taking institutions (ADIs), including banks, building societies, and credit unions.
This framework aligns Australian ADIs with the internationally agreed Basel IV capital requirements, aiming to enhance financial resilience.
ANZ's Institutional Capital Reforms Program (ICRP) addresses these new standards by updating processes, policies, and platforms to ensure compliance.
The collateral review workstream of ICRP focuses on ensuring that the bank's collateral management practices align with APRA's new capital framework.
This involves reviewing and updating collateral policies, processes, and systems to meet the revised standards.
The goal is to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of collateral valuation and management, thereby ensuring compliance with the new regulatory requirements.
As a Senior Lawyer, you will join a team of lawyers and paralegals to provide legal support to all aspects of the ICRP and in particular the collateral review workstream.
You will work on one of the high-profile projects of the bank and gain exposure to, and insights on, a broad range of Institutional matters which will increase your knowledge of the bank's legal, regulatory and compliance obligations, the bank's operations, and the bank's policy and product requirements; and have an opportunity to work with not only the ICRP and the Institutional business stakeholders and the enablement teams (e.g., Relationship Bankers, Credit and Operations) and the ANZ Legal and Corporate Governance team (e.g., Coverage Legal and Trade & Supply Chain Legal teams) but also have an opportunity to work with overseas ANZ teams, including teams in London, New York, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Banking is changing and we're changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow.
Role Type: 12 month opportunity, full time
Role Location: Melbourne, Singapore, or Hong Kong
What will your day look like? Review facility and security documents of all types of secured lending transactions across the entire Institutional banking business of ANZ, analyse security structure, identify security and facility linkage, and extract relevant information to comply with capital reform regulation requirements. Collaborate with internal teams, both upstream and downstream in project delivery, to address any discrepancies or issues found during the review process. Supervise and provide knowledge training to paralegals and conduct regular quality reviews to ensure the team delivers work products of high accuracy and efficiency. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and standards. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to facility and security management. Advise on other aspects of the ICRP as and when required. What will you bring? To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
Proven experience in executing or analysing facility and security documentation on all types of structured lending transactions (e.g., bilateral lending, syndicated lending, acquisition finance, export credit agency financing, project finance, asset financing, fund financing). Experience gained from a reputable law firm and/or equivalent in-house legal role in the financial industry. More than 8 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice) with strong technical legal expertise in banking and finance law. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work with a high volume of tasks within a tight time frame. Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements. You're not expected to have 100% of these skills.
At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we'd love to hear from you.
So why join us? From the moment you join ANZ, you'll be doing meaningful work that will shape a world where people and communities thrive.
But it's not just our customers who'll feel your impact.
You'll feel it too.
Because at ANZ, you'll have the resources, opportunities, and support you need to take the next big step in your career.
