The VBA is looking for experienced legal professionals to join the Victorian Building Authority as Senior Lawyers.
With exposure to a range of practice areas, you will play a key role in partnering with key internal stakeholders to provide quality, timely and pragmatic legal advice under the supervision of the Managing Legal Counsel and the VBA's General Counsel.These may include commercial law, administrative law, corporate governance, statutory interpretation, contract law, privacy law, employment law and/or legislative reform.We are looking to appoint to

Admission to the legal profession in an Australian jurisdiction (that is, an Australian lawyer) and current Victorian or interstate practising certificate (unrestricted).Ability to provide pragmatic, quality and timely legal advice on a range of legal issues.Experience advising in one or more of commercial law, administrative law, criminal law, statutory interpretation and privacy.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and manage stakeholders, and build effective working relationships at all levels.Working at the VBA - What You Can Expect

The VBA's services include:Responding to general enquiries from the public about the building and plumbing industries.Registering, licensing and disciplining plumbers in Victoria.Supporting the work of the Building Practitioners Board, which is responsible for registering and disciplining building practitioners.Providing expert technical advice and informed solutions to industry.Undertaking inspections, investigations and audits to enforce compliance with relevant legislation.Working with other agencies and regulators to ensure building and plumbing practitioners are compliant and that consumers are protected.Publishing data for building and plumbing practitioners.Monitoring the collection of building permit levies.Overseeing the work of building surveyors and Victoria's building permit system.
