Description of the role
As the Senior Lawyer, you will report directly to the Executive Director and provide timely, high-quality, pragmatic legal advice to the Executive Director and client's executives on a range of matters, including legislative reform, governance, and policy development.
You will be required to build and maintain strong strategic relationships with various stakeholders to inform decision-making, provide strategic support to the Executive Director, and promote the client's business and objectives.
You will perform complex legal work to a high standard by developing and using a knowledge of legislative and policy frameworks in relation to land administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Representing the Executive Director and client in high-level discussions and negotiations with internal and external stakeholders.
Strategic advice:
Undertaking technically complex or sensitive law interpretation work projects that have strategic and operational significance.
Identifying areas for legislative change and the provision of advice on legislative changes in close consultation with relevant policy areas.
Advising on the drafting and preparation of briefings, submissions, and other material for Ministers.
Shaping strategic thinking, and harnessing information and opportunities for the broader benefit of Aboriginal Traditional Land Owners.
Administrative oversight:
Preparing complex and routine legal advice on matters relating to client operations and objectives.
Coordinating client's responses to legislative reform proposals.
Reviewing and updating operational procedures based on Commonwealth legislation.
Managing and advising on land tenure transactions.
Managing client's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and Privacy Act 1988.
Recording time spent on all areas of work undertaken.
