• The Senior Koori Court Officer will use their cultural expertise, skills and experience to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people appearing in the County Koori Court and criminal division of the County Court, and their families.
• The Senior Koori Court Officer provides high level support to the Koori Court Manager in facilitating the operations of the County Koori Court (CKC) and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples presenting at court, and their families.
About Us The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. 
The County Koori Court is an alternative way of administering sentences so that Court processes are more culturally accessible as well as acceptable and comprehensible to he Koori Community. The key emphasis is on creating an informal atmosphere which allows for greater participation by the Koori Community through the Aboriginal Elders and Respected Persons, the Koori Court Officer, Koori offenders and their families in he court and sentencing process. It aims to reduce perceptions of intimidation and cultural alienation experienced by Koori offenders.
About the Role Lead the administration of activities relevant to the operations of the Melbourne CKC and nominated regional locations, including planning, and organising circuits.Oversee the activities of the County Koori Court Officer.Lead continuous improvement activities of the CKC in Victoria by assisting the Manager and Koori Court Officer with stakeholder engagement, community consultations and events.Provide cultural support and advice to Koori offenders and families involved in the Criminal Division of the County Court.Represent the County Koori Court in local forums such as the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee Network (RAJAC} and the Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees (LAJAC) within nominated regional locations.Proactively build and maintain positive relationships and linkages between the County Court, the Victorian Aboriginal Community, and other key stakeholders.Provide appropriate advice to Koori Court Elders and Respected Persons on all matters concerning the Koori Court.About You A sound knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal culture, society, and an ability to communicate effectively with Victorian Aboriginal people.Demonstrated experience in providing culturally sensitive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants.An appreciation and sensitive approach to the needs and aspirations of Victorian Aboriginal communities.Knowledge of the Victorian Justice system, particularly related to Koori Justice, solution focused courts, and therapeutic jurisprudenceExperience with administration of courts.This is an Aboriginal Designated position in accordance with Court Services Victoria Designated Positions policy.
