About the role WorkSafe WA plays an integral role in upholding healthy and safe workplaces in Western Australia, reducing workplace incidents to ensure workers return home safely every day.
We drive workplace change through education, specialist advice and enforcement.
As a WorkSafe Senior Inspector Scientific Officer, you will have a vital role in ensuring that workplaces are: adopting appropriate risk management strategies to reduce workplace hazards that can cause multiple and repeat fatalities and serious injuries; working to improve the management of psychosocial hazards; protecting workers from health hazards such as harmful dusts; consulting and involving workers in designing and implementing safe systems of work; and complying with work health and safety laws.
You will undertake complex and sensitive regulatory and technical activities, and will be considered a subject matter expert in the area of Occupational Hygiene and provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders of WorkSafe.
With investigative skills and experience in a regulatory, safety or general industry, you will be responsible for: carrying out workplace inspections and taking appropriate enforcement actions when health and safety laws are breached; conducting investigations into workplace incidents or accidents, which may include injuries and fatalities, in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 or equivalent relevant legislation; assessing any possible breaches of relevant safety legislation; gathering evidence and preparing briefs to legal, making recommendations about prosecutions and presenting evidence in court; and promoting and delivering work health and safety presentations, providing information to workplaces.
