Job DescriptionPermanent Full- Time Based in Perth AiportSalary $ 73K - 78KSGS is seeking a full time Chemist to join the team in Perth Aiport WA.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITESWith minimal supervision and a degree of independence, initiative and judgment, undertake routine preparation and analysis of soil and water samples.Prepares working standards and solutions according to documented methods.Operate, quantify results and troubleshoot scientific instrumentsCarry out scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance in accordance with documented procedures.Monitor and report on the progress of work performed.
Prioritise routine work in accordance with the supervisor and general work priority guidelines and ensure all assigned analyses or allocated tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Understand and uphold general laboratory QA/QC criteria and NATA accreditation requirements and ensure the quality of data produced fulfils the requirements of SGS's quality policy, NATA certification and stated data quality objectives.Ensure equipment and laboratory is kept clean to avoid contamination and protect the company's assets.Maintain and update skills, qualifications and knowledge through courses and on the job training to support improvement.Develop and validate new analytical methods and instrumentation as required by the business.Become a NATA signatoryEnsure that safety equipment is used where necessary and used correctly at all times.Report immediately on any unsafe work condition or equipment to the supervisor.Perform other duties as directed by the section supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the section.At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.QualificationsAppropriate tertiary qualification desirable, TAFE certificates minimum.Demonstrable experience in an environmental laboratory, specifically VOC analysis on GC Purge and Trap instrument preferred.Flexibility with working hours and tasks.Some weekend work and overtime required from time to time.
