Their work encompasses education, heritage, and environmental services, all aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural landscape.
Coongan is excited to expand their heritage team who operate from their office located northeast of Perth in Guildford (6055).
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of 10 people carrying out a range of Aboriginal heritage consultancy projects in the Pilbara region.
This role requires skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, client liaison, archaeological assessment (including field survey and excavation), and reporting.
Your focus will be on delivering exceptional client work and providing both technical and strategic advice.
This role will suit a highly motivated individual with a high level of research, writing, analytical, project management and technical skills, who enjoys working in a close-knit, supportive team environment.
As a senior cultural heritage consultant, you'll also have the opportunity to nurture client relationships, identify new work opportunities, and support staff growth and development.
ABOUT FIELDWORK: PILBARA REGION ? The season runs from February to November.
? You will be required to undertake fieldwork in the Pilbara for 10 days at a time across 6-7 trips annually.
? You will lead fieldwork, including archaeological excavations & Aboriginal heritage surveys.
Note: The upcoming schedule will be released in late November 2024, allowing you to share your preferred availability for 2025. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management: Oversee and manage archaeological consultancy projects from start to finish.Research & Analysis: Analyse data and interpret findings in historical and cultural contexts.Independent Reporting: Use advanced technical writing skills to create high-quality reports, including archaeological assessments and cultural management plans.Strategic Advice: Confidently advise on heritage issues, including risk assessments and compliance strategies.Mentoring & Coaching: Manage, develop and coordinate consultants and independent contractors within the team.Client Relations: Build and nurture relationships with all clients and identify new work opportunities.Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with Aboriginal Corporations, mining proponents and Traditional Owner Groups.Note: The above is a partial list of duties.
You will be expected to perform different tasks to meet Coongan's objectives. ABOUT YOU Ideal Skills Minimum of Bachelor's degree with Honours in Archaeology.7+ years experience, ideally gained in a consultancy environment within the heritage industry.Demonstrated advanced skills in preparing Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Survey Reports, Archaeological Management Plans and Strategies, Aboriginal Heritage Due Diligence Assessments, and Cultural Heritage Management Plans.In-depth understanding of Aboriginal archaeology, cultural heritage management and Burra Charter Principles.High level of knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (with amendments).Experience working closely with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners.High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint and Excel).Ability to: Lead and collaborate within a close-knit team.Work closely with the Aboriginal Corporations & Traditional Owners.Communicate proactively across all levels of the organisation.HOW TO APPLY
