The opportunity Launch your career at Australia's National Research Organisation Great opportunity for an early career researcher with a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics Utilise your expertise in radio interferometry and synthesis imaging CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
The successful candidate will work on open science questions, as well as technical challenges, probed by the future SKA and current SKA precursor instruments in the domain of low frequency astronomy such as LOFAR, the MWA, or the GMRT. The Fellow will develop their own independent research program to be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Tessa Vernstrom.
Your duties will include: Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes. Recognise and utilise opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research. Utilise design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals, and apply non-academic impact methodology to research projects. Carry out research investigations requiring originality, creativity and innovation. Record, manage, and analyse data/information using relevant domain data science techniques. Proactively undertake development to grow effective researcher capabilities to support career goals. Location: Perth, WA (Sydney, NSW considered)
Salary: AU$96k - AU$105k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need: A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience. Demonstrated expertise in radio interferometry and synthesis imaging. Experience with Python or similar programming languages and/or pipelines. High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences. Eligibility Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or you must either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa for the duration of the specified term (visa sponsorship and relocation assistance may be provided to the successful candidate if required). Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
