ABOUT CANNINGTON Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

As the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading geotechnical support, ensuring ground stability, managing risks, and designing safe mining operations while mentoring engineers.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: Managing ground stability risks (e.g. rockfalls, exposure to open holes, etc.) and implementing control strategies.Collaborating with mine planning and operations to deliver geotechnical solutions.Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards and preparing reports for stakeholders.Designing safe and effective underground mine layouts, stope designs, and ground support systems.ABOUT YOU You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
Comprehensive underground geotechnical/hard rock experience – ideally with open stope mining methods.Managing complex ground stability risks in underground hard rock mining environments.Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced setting.Strong analytical skills, implementing corrective actions to mitigate geotechnical risks.Qualifications for this position are: Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Geology, Civil, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics.South32 is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
