A short-term opportunity exists to backfill an AO6 Senior Finance Officer role within the Finance Branch in the Corporate Services Division.
This Senior Finance Officer performs a range of financial work within the financial accounting team including the preparation of reports and documents to provide accurate and reliable information on a timely basis including assistance in the compilation of departmental financial statements and end of year reporting requirements. You are a key liaison across the department with staff and with QSS associated in the administration of financial accounting requirements, end-of-month requirements, ledger coding, journals and other ledger (SAP) management activities.

Your duties will include:
• Analysing and interpreting financial reports.
• Working in collaboration with business groups, provide authoritative advice in relation to financial accounting to senior management and staff.
• Prepare reports, submissions and briefs on various financial topics.
• Develop innovative systems and processes to enhance efficiency, controls or to meet regulatory requirements.
• Keep up to date with changes in Whole-of-Government (WoG) policies and priorities and make changes as required.
• Contribute to the leadership and strategic direction in the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives relating to your area of expertise.
• Prepare and assist in the preparation of reports and documents to provide accurate and reliable information on a timely basis including assistance in the compilation of departmental financial statements and end of year reporting requirements.
• Consult with business areas and Queensland Shared Services (QSS) to provide support with the completion of end of month processes ensuring the integrity of the general ledger is maintained.
• Continuous monitoring of departments ledgers to ensure accuracy and integrity is maintained - including review of monthly General Ledger Reconciliations performed by QSS.
• Assist with end of month processes, creation and processing of journals and accruals and liaising with QSS regarding the SAP ledger
• Liaise with QAO and maintain and foster a good working relationship
• Assist the Manager Financial Accounting in the delivery of best practice financial management in the agency.
Eligibility requirements Citizenship/Visa
To be eligible for employment in this position, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. If you are not an Australian citizen you will need to provide evidence of your residency status or visa, with your right to work (including any conditions/restrictions) prior to engagement. You are required to notify the department if your right to work in Australia ceases.
Qualifications
There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position, however experience in accounting in a government environment, and formal qualifications in business, accounting or commerce would be highly regarded. Membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA), or MIPA status with the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) are highly desirable.
