The DNA Liaison Unit is a team of sworn and unsworn QPS personnel with crime scene investigation and forensic experience based at Forensic Science Queensland, Coopers Plains Campus.
Joining this team, you will provide wholistic case management review, triaging and coordination of DNA sample submission to FSQ Forensic Biology, provide support and guidance to QPS personnel and manage the delivery of items to interstate and international forensic experts.
The Core Capability Requirements for this role are: Close liaison with the senior investigators and DNA laboratory scientists in support of investigative outcomes.Research and analyse complex investigations and contribute to the development of forensic examination strategies, with a focus on identifying opportunities afforded through DNA testing including advancements in this area of forensic science.Critically analyse relevant information relating to major crime investigations with a view to the prioritisation and allocation of available DNA testing resources.Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in the pursuit of forensic evidence pertaining to unsolved major crime investigations.Prepare timely and well-researched submissions, briefs, notes and correspondence in relation to testing strategies for the information of senior management, FSG and senior investigators.Assess the results of DNA testing in the context of the case, and make recommendations in relation to retesting, further testing or alternative testing.Provide advice to investigators and forensic officers in relation to the probity and limitations of DNA testing results.Supervise members of the DNA Management Section including setting work priorities and monitoring performance.Role Requirements The successful applicant/s will be required to undergo psychometric assessment, prior to appointment.Applicants are advised they may be exposed to material (written, visual and audio) of a graphic and sensitive nature.The successful applicant/s will be required to work within QPS Headquarters, Brisbane and FSQ, Coopers Plains.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
