We're looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.Senior Director, Digital Sustainability Legal Team (Privacy), APAC RegionP5 PositionPurpose:The successful candidate will be an attorney with impeccable judgement who will provide strategic legal counsel on global privacy risks to the organization with a particularized focus on China and the APAC region. The individual must be energized by working in a dynamic environment with broad responsibility, as this position will effectively partner with a wide range of stakeholders across the company. This attorney will have direct, front-line responsibility providing strategic counsel to various functions, including ethics and compliance, information technology, cybersecurity, and privacy, artificial intelligence, data governance and will liaise with regional and specialty legal colleagues to counsel and strategize on these issues, including compliance with existing and emerging laws around the globe. This attorney will also collaborate with the government affairs team in influencing legislation and industry standards related to information privacy. The position reports to the Associate Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, Digital Sustainability Regional Attorney Lead.Responsibilities:Provide proactive and strategic counsel to business partners on matters related to privacy with a particularized focus on the China and the APAC regionAs needed, collaborate with other team members to provide counsel in areas of data governance, cybersecurity and artificial intelligencePartner effectively and coordinate across Legal, as well as Ethics and Compliance, Information Technology and Security, and Global Security to identify innovative cybersecurity solutions and compliance practices for information, products, and internal operationsProactively monitor, train, and advise on emerging risks, regulations, and best practicesProvide legal counsel on privacy and cybersecurity incident response actions and internal investigationsEnsure the organization maintains appropriate policies, notices, standards, controls, playbooks, and other practices and processes cross-functionally and as a part of global operations for privacyEducate business and operation leads, ethics and compliance, information technology and security colleagues on potential legal implications of proposed privacy platforms, programs, and practicesParticipate as a core member of teams responsible for data governance, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and privacy strategiesRepresent Lilly in various industry, legal and other relevant external groups related to privacy in China and the APAC regionDraft and review, and otherwise support negotiations regarding privacy provisions in a wide variety of agreementsBasic QualificationsBachelor's and J.D. degrees from accredited schools.Active license to practice law in at least one country in the APAC regionA minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at least 4 years of experience in privacy.Additional Skills/PreferencesPreference for in-house legal experience, ideally with a global pharmaceutical or biotechnology company, or advising global corporation clients at a law-firm, or some combination of the two.Working knowledge and understanding of various privacy regulations, frameworks, and accompanying guidanceExperience successfully and strategically handling privacy risks, threats, and breachesAbility to research, track, and turn regulations and enforcement trends into practical, actionable adviceDemonstrated collaboration skills with corporate business partners and/or clients, including the ability to work closely with information technology and security teammates and a clear understanding of roles and responsibilitiesBasic knowledge of and understanding of privacy regulators, including the FTC, states attorneys general, and international supervisory authoritiesHighly motivated and collaborative partner with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and members of management across all levels of the companyGood judgement and a meticulous level of attention to detailExcellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence othersDemonstrated commitment to expand knowledge and adapt to the changing environmentComfortable operating with a sense of urgency and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environmentAbility to engage across global geographic markets and different operating modelsExperience counseling on emerging regulations and best practices in data governance, artificial intelligence, privacy, and cyber securityExperience counseling technology teamsWillingness to travel to Indianapolis on a bi-annual basis.
