An exciting opportunity exists to join a growing IT services company as a Data Engineer servicing major clients across the Retail, Healthcare & Professional Services sectors.
We are looking for an experienced candidate who enjoys working in a small team, a self-starter who is comfortable designing & implementing solutions to customer/end user problems.
We're not big business, we work collaboratively and make decisions quickly (less bureaucracy).
About the role The Data Engineer position is critical to our ability to meet the growing data requirements of our organisation & our clients.
As a member of the BI & Data Systems team the Data Engineer reports to the Head of IT/CTO and will work closely with our data analyst who is a subject matter expert for retail datasets.
The role will be primarily client facing & you will get to work closely with our largest clients.
The Data Engineer is responsible for:
Maintaining a shared Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) that is used by multiple related businesses. Improving the Governance, Automation & Performance of internal and customer data systems. As Data Engineer you will be given a good degree of autonomy to find, propose and implement creative solutions to any day to day operational challenges as well as end user problems & requests.
At times you will also be asked to work with our internal IT support team and external software developers as projects require.
This role is permanent full time based in our Booragoon office.
About You We are looking for a gun SQL Dev/data engineer who enjoys working in a small agile team.
A self-starter who is comfortable designing & implementing data integration solutions to solve problems.
Someone who can use their experience to look for opportunities to advise where existing systems and processes can be improved.
Someone who can work with end users finding manual processes & use their skills to improve or automate those processes.
Qualifications & experience Experience (4+ years) working with banking/finance industry datasets and/or working with retail datasets performing data integration, data analysis and data modelling tasks. Experience (3+ years) working with & maintaining large data warehouse and report development. Advanced SQL, ETL, Data Modelling skills including extensive experience working with typical Microsoft on-Prem (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) or Azure Cloud data engineering stack (PowerBI / Microsoft Fabric). Advanced PowerQuery & Excel skills (VBA, Macro, VLOOKUP etc) would be highly desirable. Exposure to use of Python, Advanced DAX, M Language in data analysis / engineering use cases. Experience using modern development / deployment practices & tools such as Github, CI/CD, etc. Experience and knowledge in System Integrations such as API Management, SOAP, XML. Tertiary qualification Business Information, Computer Science, or a related field and / or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience. Experience in .Net development is highly desirable. Tasks & responsibilities Manage existing Data Warehouse & ETL processes built using Microsoft SQL stack. Work with our existing data engineer on a tech stack modernisation project to move from all on-premises to a more hybrid tech stack by integrating appropriate cloud data tools. Database design, SQL development, ETL processes, data cleansing, reports and dashboards. Propose and design improvements to existing ETL processes as requirements change. Maintain and enhance system (Salesforce, Retail ERP) integrations with our data warehouse. Work closely with Data Analyst & partner organisations to provide reporting outcomes for users. Assisting in providing reporting outcomes from our internal helpdesk/ticketing systems & remote computer/server monitoring systems. Owning the technical implementation of new data from analysis to delivery. Work with relevant stakeholders, scoping and development of sophisticated solutions to provide outcomes to meet their needs. Perform ad-hoc queries/analysis and interpretation of results as required. Provide Train the Trainer (TTT) training activities to business users.
