The Role Reporting to the Project Director, the Senior Commercial Manager provides support and guidance to the Project Director in the commercial management of the Project. The role is responsible for the guidance of the contracts/commercial team on the project, and for oversight over the contract administration methods, practices, and procedures. The Senior Commercial Manager is also responsible for establishing the project practices and procedures that ensure sound contract management principles are applied.
Key Responsibilities Ensure that all project contracts meet the requirements of the project with respect to scope and execution.Produce and administer procedures for contract requirements implementation as required.Ensure Company policies associated with contracts are followed.Provide guidance on the project process for progress claims for projects and general sales invoicing for projects to ensure timely submission of invoicing and minimise WIP balances.Monitor project contracts compliance with contract terms and conditions and maintain and update the project baseline.Aid Project Managers in relation to notifications, letters and reports.Develop and maintain the project contracts filing system.Produce or respond to contractual claims as required, including the negotiation and close of claims.Prepare and control sub-contracts and associated documentation.Participate in contract reviews and negotiations.Prepare contract variations.In conjunction with the Project Managers, be involved in the payment and variation certification process of major subcontractor works and be directly involved in any contractual disputes should they arise.Ensure that effective contractual document control processes are adhered to within the business.Monitor and review financial data related to contract performance, forecasts, labour, and variation costs, expected Gross margin and profits, and report any discrepancies as they arise.Assist with reporting and processing monthly cost recording and processing.Ensure full awareness of all ongoing site activities and provide assessments of those activities on the overall project. This will require regular visits to site to verify subcontractor performance and to verify contract adherence, and close liaison with site team to ensure any issues are managed in accordance with the various contract requirements.Establish or maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.Ensure that stakeholder requirements and project risks are adequately addressed.Manage and lead the work of a team; provide motivation, encouragement, and opportunities for development; manage any underperformance issues if required in consultation with People and Culture; actively monitor leave requests of team.About You: Tertiary qualifications in a related field including Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or Contract Management.A minimum of fifteen (15) years' experience delivering complex projects.Renewable energy sector experience welcome, but not required.Experience in managing complex major contracts, variation, and extension of time claims.Experience leading diverse teams in the operation of commercial contracts management systems, policies, and procedures.Demonstrated experience in engineering/construction industry contracting practices, pricing, contract law, planning and scheduling, government and commercial procurement regulations and practices.Ability to maintain effective and collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders.A high level of commercial proficiency with the ability to navigate complex deal structures.Be able to work both autonomously and within a diverse team.Positively influence, build, and maintain relationships with internal and external partners/clients with conflicting interests and priorities.Use your initiative, solve problems through analytical thinking & make decisions within a fast-paced construction environment.Ability to be proactive, anticipating needs, find opportunities.Sophisticated quantitative skills.Mastery of contracts, schedules, documentation management, financial administration.Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence outcomes.High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.Computer literacy and strong competence with the Microsoft 365 suite of software is fundamental to this role.What's on Offer In addition to a competitive remuneration package combined with attractive benefits, employees have the opportunity to access training and career development, and workplace flexibility.
