THE ROLE The Senior Contracts Analyst works closely with the Commercial Manager and provides support on a range of matters, including optimizing TransAlta's position in the Wholesale Electricity Market, ensuring compliance with market rules and contractual obligations, contract administration, data and database management, analysis of commercial and financial outcomes and improving internal systems and processes to increase efficiencies within the business.
This role will have a broad internal customer base across TransAlta's Australian assets, current and future.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES Contribute to and be responsible for TransAlta's daily interactions within the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) including to:provide analysis to support bidding behavior,make daily submissions as required,develop and refine strategies to optimize outcomes for TransAlta and its customers in the WEM,ensure TransAlta complies with all its obligations under the rules such as outage reporting and maintenance of standing data,analyze and interpret trading results and reconcile financial transactions,coordinate activities such as outages with other TransAlta personnel (e.g.
engineering and operations), andrepresent TransAlta in interactions with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Western Power, Economic Regulation Authority and other relevant regulatory entities as required.Assist with management of key commercial contracts including long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including to:prepare and send out invoices,ensure obligations under the contracts are adhered to,provide analysis to support contractual decisions and optimize long-term value,provide support to our customers as required and represent TransAlta in customer interactions, andprepare internal forecasts to assist with TransAlta's financial budgeting and forecasting processes.Assist with building, maintaining and improving analytical/commercial models to support the business both in interactions with the WEM and for more generic applications within the Commercial Team.Responsible for maintaining and updating relevant data and databases for operational performance monitoring, reporting purposes and calculation of invoices and supporting documentation as required by our contracts and for our participation in the WEM.Provide support for regulatory issues.
This will include:analyzing the potential impacts of proposed market rule changes and present results to management,representing TransAlta at industry working groups, andliaising with regulators as required.ABOUT YOU University degree in commerce, law, business, engineering or other related discipline.A minimum of 7 years of experience in a commercial, regulatory or legal related role.A minimum of 3 years of experience in the electricity sector, with demonstrated experience in management and negotiation of power purchase agreements and related contracts.Demonstrated capability to understand and manage risk effectively, balancing short and long-term business requirements.Demonstrated strong analytical skills with a record of meeting deadlines.Proficient in core office programs (i.e.
: MS office) and capable of learning key position specific applications.TransAlta offers a competitive remuneration package including private health insurance and eligibility for an annual bonus.
