About You:
You are a person with a history of hardware, software, and communications integration to solve real-world problems. You will be an out-of-the-box thinker, happy to work on a variety of solutions and new ideas, able to conceive product design concepts and prepare design layouts of complex systems and major components by manual means or by using a computer graphics system. Your ability to make design calculations, design decisions, and do the necessary analysis and computer simulations, that refine and improve product designs by investigating and developing solutions to product design challenges.
You are a self-starter who enjoys seeing a solution through to completion, design-driven, and take pride in the quality of your work. Able to collaborate and build strong relationships with the wider team and customers to create the best solutions possible. You will take and enjoy an occasional hands-on approach with hardware installs and testing when required.
About The Position:
The Underground Technology Products System Senior Autonomy Engineer is responsible for the design, testing, and integration of Machine Autonomy hardware including the Isolation Systems for an Automation zone, Remote Control, Machine Health Monitoring, and Tire Monitoring systems on Caterpillar's Underground Hard Rock Mining Load Haul Dump (LHD) Loaders and Underground Mining Truck machines.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
Provide technical leadership and training to new team members.
Create Technology Product Systems for Underground Hard Rock Mining machines by integrating Control systems with hardware elements like PLC Electronic Controllers, Various types of Sensors & Actuators.
Define and document end-to-end System Functionality and Performance Requirements.
Interact with Software and component delivery teams to communicate requirements and specifications.
Create and maintain physical/functional system diagrams.
Conduct systematic evaluation on integrated systems to identify potential failures.
Define and implement communication protocols for interoperability.
Oversee solution development (hardware & software).
Troubleshoot integration and interoperability issues.
Provide technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of the Technology Product System(s).
Provide training/mentoring support and guidance to other team members.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science or Materials Science curriculum.
3 - 5 Years of experience with automotive or heavy mobile equipment systems.
Strong analytical skills.
Desired Skills / Experience:
Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Experience working in an environment with highly functional heavy machinery.
Experience with Wireless Communication Networks.
Strong Team leadership skills.
Good mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts.
Mastery of complex engineering and manufacturability concepts.
Experience with Siemens PLC components and RF Communications.
