About the Division The Assurance, Knowledge and Executive Services Division (AKESD) has the following functions under the Assurance Branch, Knowledge, Privacy and Records Branch, and the Executive and Ministerial Services Branch:
Internal audit planning and delivery, School Council Financial Assurance program and follow-up of audit action implementationSupporting the Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) performance audits and the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC)Cabinet and Parliament support, including board appointmentsFreedom of InformationBriefings and correspondence supportPrivacy advice and supportRecords and digital content management, SharePoint and copyright advice and supportAbout the Role The roles and responsibilities of the Senior Audit Officer (Schools) are to:
Undertake internal audits (school and corporate) based on the Internal Audit Plan or ad-hoc requestsAssist in managing the schools Agreed-upon Procedures (AUPs) programFollow up on the implementation of management actions arising from the school and corporate auditsAssist in the annual development of a risk-based internal audit rolling program for schoolsPrepare reports and briefings for the department's ARC and the Executive BoardWork closely with business areas within the department responsible for overseeing (schools and corporate) financial and operational activities, and with other school auditors including VAGO financial auditorsAssist with audit and risk-related business/process improvement initiatives and contribute to the provision of advice and assurance support to school management on matters of governance, compliance, controls and risk managementTravel across the State of Victoria from time to time as part of delivering the auditsBuild strong relationships with business areas and act as a trusted advisorThis role may also be required to undertake other tasks such as maintenance of audit tools and assisting with the Division's activities as required.

Understanding of auditing, accounting and financial reportingExperience in applying internal controls to assess business processesKnowledge of IIA Standards, COSO, and ISO31000 risk management practices, and can assess the effectiveness of controls, risks, and governanceFamiliarity with risk and assurance tools, including data analytics and control self-assessmentAbility to conduct thorough research for audit planningKnowledge of government legislation, policies, and procedures related to internal audit and awareness of current and emerging risks to help develop the annual Internal Audit PlanMandatory Qualifications Essential: Bachelor's degree in a related fieldEssential: CA / CPA / CIA designation or equivalentHow to Apply Applicants are asked to provide a statement of no more than two pages against the Key Selection Criteria including addressing the essential qualifications and experience listed.
