This is a national mid-tier firm and a fairly classic generalist employment practice, with a 50/50 split of advisory and dispute work and a focus on workplace investigations. They have a solid base of Australian and international clients across the health, insurance, media, education and training, accounting, and construction sectors. One day, you might be working with a GC client in the US, or an executive for an ASX-listed organisation, or a smaller-scale commercial client. There is an excess workload coming into the team and the goal here is to leverage this healthy pipeline by bringing on someone who is ambitious for career progression. There is no immediate need for you to bring in matters or client relationships, but there will be a lower billable-hours-per-day target (4-5hrs) to give you time to build your profile and practice. The National Head of Employment has a top-tier background and runs a typical big-firm model with strong technical support and supervision on matters. That being said, we are looking for someone who is self-driven and proactive in managing their files and managing up.As a Senior member of this team, you will be afforded the flexibility and autonomy to take the Lead role on your own matters. The team operates as a truly national group, and you'll be working on matters across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The team all work on a 50/50 Hybrid WFH arrangement.Career progression is (really) based on meritocracy rather than 'post-admission experience'. There is no old-boys club here, so this position would suit an experienced and ambitious practitioner who is performing above their years' experience, who is looking for an environment where they will be recognised and rewarded for the quality and value they bring to the team, and to enjoy a faster career progression than in a traditional firm.
