We are seeking an experienced and intelligent disputes lawyer to work closely with Partner Howard Rapke on a significant Commonwealth matter.
About the teamThis is an exciting opportunity for a high performing Senior Associate to join one of Melbourne's most highly regarded litigation practices.

About the roleWe are seeking an experienced and intelligent disputes lawyer to work closely with Partner Howard Rapke and a team of lawyers and paralegals on a critical and complex matter for the Commonwealth Government. With direct engagement with the client and working within a large cohort focused on this particular matter, you will thrive in both working autonomously and as part of a team.
While your key focus will be on the significant Commonwealth matter, examples of the work undertaken in the wider team include:
Property disputesCommercial/corporate conflictsLarge family trust disputesActing for corporate regulators and companies in regulatory investigations and civil penalty proceedingsActing for insolvency practitioners, directors and creditors in all matters arising out of the administration liquidation and receivership of companiesRetail, commercial and industrial leasing: advising a number of Australia's largest commercial landlords and tenants in matters of strategy, risk assessment and management, alternative dispute resolution, and litigationProsecuting and defending shareholder oppression claimsDefending companies and directors in shareholder class actionsDefending companies and individuals regarding commercial crime including fraud, foreign bribery and anti-corruption matters as well as prosecutions under Federal and Victorian criminal lawActing for state and federal governments on investigations, Royal Commissions, procurement disputes and a range of advice mattersAbout youYou will be an engaged and driven lawyer with a genuine desire to continually improve and deliver outstanding results for your clients. You will have excellent communication and drafting skills, enjoy a busy work environment and thrive in a collaborative work culture. You will be a highly skilled lawyer with outstanding technical ability and a desire to help those around you. You will enjoy working with less experienced lawyers and possess the capability to not only supervise and develop others, but also motivate and contribute to the overall morale and success of the team.
In addition, you will have:
5 to 8 years PAE, and currently be a senior associate (or on the cusp) with experience gained as a commercial litigator in a well-regarded litigation practice.Experience in general commercial disputes. Prior experience in investigations and/or government disputes work will be a bonus.Proven ability to coordinate, manage workflows under pressure and delegate appropriately to a team of lawyers and paralegals.Experience in engaging with a broad range of individual, corporate and government clients with the ability to cultivate successful and trusted client relationships.Superior analytical, research and drafting skills.This is an excellent opportunity for a talented lawyer to join a successful team and advance their career in the law.
