It is an exciting time to be working in Mergers as the government is planning to reform the merger review system. Subject to passage of legislation, the ACCC will commence review of mergers under a new, mandatory and suspensory merger review system from 1 January 2026, with transitional arrangements and preparation occurring during late 2024 and 2025.

We are looking for new team members to commence immediately, and also as late as May next year. So if you are interested in delaying your start date until May 2025, please apply now.What you will do as one of our Mergers Senior Analyst:Undertake investigations and competition analysis of mergers across a wide range of industries.Carry out economic, legal or data advice and analysis.Develop or implement policy positions arising from merger reform.Liaise with other Australian Government agencies and overseas competition and consumer agencies about the ACCC's mergers work.Conduct consultations with market participants and manage relationships with key stakeholders.Undertake competition analysis and draft theories of harm, analysing facts and data to draw evidence-based conclusions, and draft and present mergers recommendations to ACCC Commissioners.Lead and develop more junior staff.In order to succeed in the role, you will have:relevant work experience working within an economic context, professionally within a legal context, contributing to economic or market analysis.tertiary qualifications in economics, law, data or similar fields.a developed understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding, of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other relevant legislation, as well as a sound general knowledge of the role and functions of the ACCC/AER.demonstrated ability to effectively research, investigate and analyse competition issues, interpret and apply legislation, work collaboratively, prioritise a demanding workload and manage and develop junior team members.In order to succeed in the role, you will have:relevant work experience working within an economic context, professionally within a legal context, contributing to economic or market analysis.tertiary qualifications in economics, law, data or similar fields.a developed understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding, of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other relevant legislation, as well as a sound general knowledge of the role and functions of the ACCC/AER.demonstrated ability to effectively research, investigate and analyse competition issues, interpret and apply legislation, work collaboratively, prioritise a demanding workload and manage and develop junior team members.To find out more about us and the role, please read the Candidate Kit.
