The core focus of the Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Group is managing QCS' health, safety and wellbeing framework, including promoting a culture to sustain continuous improvement. Activities such as workplace safety, hazard and risk management, injury management, wellbeing programs and consultancy, organisational culture and capability development are critical components of the body of work needed to support QCS' commitment to building a robust safety culture.
The Senior Advisor (Health & Safety) provides competent evidence-based advice, guidance and coaching to staff and managers on all aspects of WHS and wellbeing. The role focuses on building capability across the organisation, especially that which supports frontline staff and operations, and which supports continuous improvement and a safety culture.
While based in the Health and Safety team, the Senior Advisor (Health & Safety) works flexibly across HSW and in close partnership with other business units and frontline areas, to build a capable and resilient workforce. Particular focus is on proactive, preventative and innovative approaches to managing the impacts of working in high risk, dynamic environments.
Key Responsibilities Contribute to the development of strategic health, safety and wellbeing plans to reduce risk exposure across QCS. Assist teams to develop, implement and maintain health, safety and wellbeing risk analysis as part of the broader HSW management system. Audit incident investigations and risk assessments across QCS to ensure appropriate implementation of the HSW management system. Actively review WHS data and identify trends or areas that may have agency wide implications. Undertake workplace inspections and assessments as required, identifying and reporting corrective actions and non-conformances. Establish, promote and monitor work practices that maintain safety, control risk and comply with legislative responsibilities in complex correctional environments. Provide Workplace Health and Safety advice and support to staff, managers and health, safety and wellbeing practitioners. Assist HSW management in the implementation of agency health, safety and wellbeing initiatives. Prepare and deliver written reports as required. Develop strong and effective relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders. Applications to remain current for 12 months.
