Generous leave entitlements The Operations Department is responsible for providing a range of services to Council including the collection of waste and recyclable materials from within the municipality, waste management policy and waste education, the operation of the Banyule Waste Recovery Centre, mechanical sweeping of roads and footpaths, inspection, cleaning and maintenance of pits and drains, management of water harvesting and water sensitive urban design facilities, clearance of litter bins from shopping centres, cleaning of Council's toilet blocks and barbeques, the management of Council's plant and Fleet and maintenance of Council infrastructure that includes roads, footpaths, shared trails, signs and street furniture.
About the role: In this position, you will be responsible for: Delivery of efficient and effective operation of the Waste Recovery Centre services and waste transport operations in accordance with policies, procedures and laws.
Delivery of safe and proper work practices are adhered to in accordance with current OH&S legislation and relevant industry standards.
Delivery of excellence in customer experience.
Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Operations Depot.
Skills, experience and certificates: Willingness and capacity to work in a hands-on outdoor role in the waste industry.
Willingness and capacity to frequently work on weekends, and public holidays on a rostered basis as well as occasional weekday early starts.
Willingness and capacity to enter a restricted space and use working at heights equipment.
Demonstrated ability to adhere to organisational values and the Code of Conduct, always act professionally and operate within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal and public policy constraints.
Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices Organisational skills and ability to plan your own work to assist other team members to work safely and efficiently.
Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Effective communication skills for engaging with customers.
Experience in the receipt of and handling of monies at the point of sale.
Basic computer and systems skills sufficient to use email, use OHS software on tablet computers, computerised industrial machinery, and operate EFTPOS and weighbridge software.
Essential: Drive Heavy Combination (HC) vehicle Operate Forklift Operate backhoe/front-end loader Drive a Class C vehicle.
Competent in undertaking routine maintenance on machinery and mobile plant.
