Position Overview:The Security Technician will be an integral part of the SEA2273 Sub-Program within the Warfighting Networks and Applications Support Organisation (WSO) under the ICT Delivery Division of the Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) at the Department of Defence. This role supports the development and integration of secure ICT solutions for the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet Information Environment (FIE) Modernisation project. The FIE Modernisation aims to provide the Navy with a robust, secure, and integrated mission system that enhances operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:Cyber Solutions Design & Implementation: Support the design, development, and transition of cybersecurity solutions aligned with best practices and relevant security frameworks.Tool Maintenance & Upgrades: Proactively maintain and upgrade cyber tools within the Minerva system, ensuring seamless integration and operation of ICT services.Defect Remediation: Assist with the development, testing, and build defect remediation of cyber toolsets on Minerva systems.Documentation & Reporting: Author and maintain solution designs, standard operating procedures, as-built configurations, and other relevant technical documentation.Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with the SEA2273 technical team to ensure effective integration of cyber tools and services across the ICT infrastructure.Required Skills and Experience:Defence Experience: Proven experience as a Security Technician in a Defence environment.Cybersecurity Toolset Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of cyber toolsets in large-scale and geographically dispersed environments.Fortinet Expertise: Strong knowledge of the Fortinet suite of products.Security Principles: Expertise in security models such as Zero Trust, Tiered models, and security boundaries.Problem-Solving: Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team.Desirable Skills and Experience:Defence Industry Experience: Previous work in Defence-related projects is highly desirable.Minerva System Knowledge: Familiarity with the SEA2273 Minerva system and its applications.Security Threat Landscape: Understanding of security threats and mitigations.Standards & Frameworks Knowledge: Experience with security frameworks such as the Australian Information Security Manual (ISM), NIST, and ISO27001.Additional Requirements:Security Clearance: Must hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance.Compliance with ITAR: The candidate will need to comply with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) as they may handle export-controlled ICT products.About the FIE Modernisation:The Fleet Information Environment (FIE) Modernisation initiative aims to deliver an integrated, secure, and sustainable mission system to enable the Royal Australian Navy to "fight and win at sea."
