Mater Clinical Support Services/Mater Pathology has an exciting opportunity for Scientists – Transfusion to join our team!
We currently have 2 roles available:
38 hours per week/10 days per fortnight, 1 year fixed-term - The role will be required to work independently and as part of a team in a 24/7/365 laboratory including out of hours work including weekends and overnight shifts.
19 hours per week/5 days per fortnight, 1 year fixed-term - The role will be required to work independently as a sole scientist predominantly on the overnight shift. The expected main hours of work will be between 11pm and 8am, Monday to Sunday. Availability for some day shifts also will be required.
Reporting to the Supervising Scientist, you will be based at our South Brisbane campus in our Main Transfusion laboratory.
The purpose of the role is to deliver a high quality and cost-effective diagnostic service on behalf of Mater Pathology within the Transfusion department, supplying operational direction utilising contemporary technology and best practice standards, for clinicians and their patients.
This position requires a well-developed level of scientific knowledge, operational experience and skills to provide operational testing for blood and blood related products within the Laboratory.
Salary range: $40.65 -$57.80 (HP3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900
What you'll be doing
Processing Transfusion samples relating to pre-transfusion, obstetric and out-patient disciplines including specialized testing- eg autoadsorptions and elutions. Providing a Transfusion service to the Mater Hospital Campuses. Performing equipment maintenance and quality assurance. Managing work priorities to effectively meet critical clinical requirements and ensure accurate clinical diagnostic results are reported promptly. Demonstrating a high level knowledge of all aspects of quality assurance in the Transfusion Laboratory, including knowledge and understanding of the current NPAAC, NATA and cGMP and any other statutory requirements for the delivery of the services. About you
To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and experience:
A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science degree with subjects in Transfusion. Previous experience working 'out of hours' is highly desirable.
