Responsibilities Apply an advanced level of technical judgement relating to Mycobacteriology combined with extensive operational experience to make complex technical decisions beyond that of routine day to day practice with infrequent need for direct supervision. Regularly provide independent expert technical judgement on matters within the area of expertise to fellow staff members and clients both internal and external. Assist the Chief Scientist in carrying out clinical trial data analyses, preparing reports, participate and initiate research and development in order to enhance the laboratory's standard as a centre of excellence in Mycobacteriology. Demonstrate a professional attitude by working cooperatively and communicating effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory. Assessment Criteria Demonstrated specialist knowledge, expertise and skills in Mycobacteriology. Demonstrated ability to provide complex advice to laboratory staff and District Health Service clients on a broad range of issues pertaining to Mycobacteriology. Demonstrated ability to provide technical services of a complex nature to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards and established principles / procedures. Demonstrated ability to work independently in handling clinical trial samples and collating/analysis of clinical trial data. Qualifications, Registrations and Other Requirements The successful applicant must hold a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent. Relevant technical experience and competence is required. A qualification in the field of microbiology would be well regarded. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of duties. This position is expected to cover for both sites if required.
