Bring legacy to life. For the future of Queensland and the world. #DAFcareers We are looking for an experienced agricultural specialist to join our chemical residue and contaminant team within Biosecurity Queensland to:
Participate in a team of residue specialists and ensure timely, and reliable scientific and risk-based analysis of agvet chemical residues, contaminants and agvet chemical registration matters that may affect trade, human health or the environment.Use specialist knowledge, expertise and experience (agronomy, animal husbandry, agricultural science or chemistry) to provide appropriate scientific guidance to internal and external stakeholders on complex agvet chemical residues and contaminants in agriculture and agvet chemical registrations.As our Scientist (Agvet Chemicals and Contaminants), you will use your specialist knowledge, expertise, and experience to provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders on complex agvet chemical residues and contaminants in agriculture and agvet chemical registrations. Your contributions will assist Queensland build and maintain agricultural trade, its unique environment and our amazing lifestyle.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you: Build and maintain effective professional working relationships, and collaboration with scientists, specialists, team members, industry and community members, as well as team members and management.Manage a workload with competing priorities, ensuring your contributions to the team are undertaken promptly and effectively.Actively contribute to team and organisational scientific capability and develop and maintain specialist knowledge, contemporary awareness and understanding of state and national developments in agvet chemical residues, agvet chemical registrations and contaminants.As our Scientist (Agvet Chemicals and Contaminants), you will: Participate in a team of residue specialists, agricultural scientists (agronomy and animal husbandry) in the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals and Contaminants (ACC) Subprogram of Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity, Biosecurity Queensland.Ensure timely, and reliable scientific and risk-based analysis (including review of relevant literature) of agvet chemical residues, contaminants and agvet chemical registration matters that may affect trade, human health or the environment.Use specialist knowledge, expertise and experience to provide appropriate scientific guidance to internal and external stakeholders on complex agvet chemical residues and contaminants in agriculture and agvet chemical registrations.Collect and collate complex scientific, risk and or administrative data using relevant software, related to agvet chemical residues, contaminants and agvet chemical registrations.Effectively communicate (written and verbal) complex scientific information regarding chemical residues, contaminants and agvet chemical registration to internal and external stakeholders, to improve outcomes. Where relevant, this includes contribution to reports, briefings and stakeholder meetings.Build and maintain effective working relationships, and collaboration with scientists, specialists, industry and community members, as well as team members and management.Develop and maintain knowledge, contemporary awareness and understanding of state and national developments in agvet chemical residues, agvet chemical registrations and contaminants.Undertake other roles as directed by the Principal Scientist or Manager, Agvet Chemicals and Contaminants.Licences and registrationsA current 'C' class drivers licence.
Mandatory qualificationsIt is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in agriculture, agronomy, animal husbandry, chemistry, applied science or equivalent to the position from a recognised tertiary institution.For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
