About the role We are currently recruiting for a Scientific Officer and/or Lab Technician (Soils/Water/Plant/Grain). This represents an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to take the next step and develop their career with a company that emphasises putting scientific and environmentally sustainable principles first. Gain industry experience as a scientist and continue developing your skills through a variety of projects. You will be working alongside a supportive team working on numerous analysis projects. This role is focused on analysis of soil, water, plant tissue and grains. The opportunity for further training and to work across a range of sectors on a variety of diverse and technical projects. We are seeking people in a full-time capacity to join our team. (Part time arrangements will also be considered) This role will be based in Tamworth, NSW, and you will be required to attend the laboratory each day. Tasks & responsibilities Undertake lab-based tasks such as analysing soil, water, plant and grain samples as directed. Undertake operation, maintenance and calibration of equipment (ICP-OES, LECO and Discrete Analyser) and use wet chemistry techniques. Complete required quality control tasks. Ensure all testing performed meets quality assurance and continuous improvement practices. Preparation and maintenance of chemicals and reagents. Observing and maintaining knowledge of all relevant quality control documentation and NATA requirements. Working collaboratively to ensure that the data obtained during testing is reliable and reproducible. Maintain confidentiality of customer information, results and reports. Can deal with problems that arise within their area of work without support using application of acquired knowledge and reference to standard guidelines and manuals. Capable of using spreadsheet formulas to perform calculations as required for quality control and assurance and able to recognize non valid results or data. Conduct work in a safe manner in accordance with company policy. Qualifications & experience Have completed or are working towards completing a Bachelor's Degree, Diploma or Certificate IV in science, agricultural science, soil science, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or a related discipline. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team focus. Enthusiasm for producing high quality work that delivers practical solutions for our client. Demonstrated experience in laboratories will be highly regarded. Ideal Candidate You must have a desire to join a high performing team as a team player. Good communication skills, ethics and reliability. A broad base knowledge of scientific analysis and/or troubleshooting. Ability and enthusiasm to learn new skills and conduct investigations of environmental materials. Capable of planning and conducting analysis for several different projects. Ability to deliver reliable results consistently to proposed timelines. Science degree or equivalent qualification / experience, Laboratory Technician Certificate IV or equivalent qualification / experience, computer skills, driver's license. Positive, collaborative attitude and ability to work in a small team. Detail oriented, able to follow procedures and enjoy getting the job done right every time. You will be reliable, honest, fair and have integrity in how you conduct yourself. The hourly rate will be in accordance with Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2010 [MA000010] or Professional Employees Award 2010 [MA000065] depending on qualifications.
