Science Laboratory Technician

Permanent Full-time, Term-time Position | Commencing Monday 20 January 2025 This position is responsible for assisting and supporting the Science Department, under the direction of the Dean of Science and the Science Laboratory Coordinator.
About the Role:
Provided below are the principal responsibilities for this position, which must always comply with science laboratory risk assessments. From time to time other duties may be deemed necessary and as determined by the Dean of Science or the Head of Senior School.
• Assist the Dean of Science with the administration of the Science Department.
• Assist with the introduction of new risk assessment software.
• Prepare and maintain materials for science practical classes, experiments and  demonstrations.
• Clear and store materials and equipment when no longer needed.
• Ensure materials, equipment, work spaces and chemical storage areas are maintained in good order.
• Assist with the maintenance of Science Department safety registers and implementation of safety standards.
• Assist with the stocktaking of current materials and equipment.
• Assist with ordering required materials and equipment where necessary.
• Accurately enter data into record systems as required.
• Assist with filing of student folios.
• Assist with the organisation of events and excursions.
• Attend College science excursions as required by the Dean of Science.
• Assist classroom teachers in supervision of students during practical work as requested.
• Use private vehicle to collect science supplies, if necessary.
To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:
• Minimum of a Certificate IV qualification or equivalent in an appropriate field
• Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques
• Strong knowledge of science laboratory risk assessment
• Strong organisational and clerical practice
• Ability to work within strict deadlines
• Have an attention for detail
• Ability to communicate with staff
• A strong preference will be given to those with Chemistry experience
