Selection CriteriaAssociate Diploma of Applied Science (Laboratory Technology or equivalent) required.Demonstrated capacity to take on responsibility and work independently.Good organisational and communication skills and the ability to relate to students and other staff.Qualifications for laboratory first aid treatment and procedures.Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g.
safety, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and the handling and prevention of cruelty to animals).RoleProvide specialised knowledge that is relied upon to deliver support services, under direction, in the laboratory.Ability to follow established procedures and guidelines under supervision and instruction is required.Knowledge of basic technical and scientific principles, which enable the performance of a variety of inter-related technical tasks.Ability to operate and instruct staff and students in the use of science-related equipment.ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Duties: Provide specialist technical advice, under supervision of a teacher, to students in relation to the handling and use of materials and equipment, including the use of chemicals and the conducting and analysis of scientific experiments.Source and prepare required materials and/or equipment needed for classes.Advise and assist staff in safety matters relating to a specific functional area, e.g.
handling of chemicals in a science laboratory.Assist teachers in the supervision of science experiments when required.Assist with the provision of a reference service to teachers.Prepare and operate equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines and ensure all equipment is always in good working order.Provide basic instruction to students, teachers, and other users in operation of equipment used in practical classes.Maintain a petty cash system.Maintain MSDS reporting and risk assessments according to OH & S regulations.Assist in school educational promotions.Assist with stocktake of all science equipment.Advise and assist science staff with laboratory safety matters.Other duties as directed by the Principal.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
