Position Overview The First Aid Officer at Balwyn High School is responsible for providing first aid and managing health incidents among students and staff. This role involves the administration of first aid in case of illness or injury, managing health records, and maintaining first aid supplies. Experience in supporting students with sexual health concerns is desirable but not required.
Key Responsibilities First Aid Administration: Provide immediate first aid and health support for students, staff, and visitors, ensuring that incidents are managed in a timely and professional manner.Health Record Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records and reports using school systems (e.g., CASES21/Compass) in compliance with Department of Education guidelines.Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications to students according to school policies and DET guidelines, with clear documentation.First Aid Resource Management: Ensure that all first aid kits and supplies are regularly replenished and properly maintained across the school and during school events such as camps and excursions.Communication and Referral: Communicate with parents/guardians about health incidents and liaise with external health services as required.Collaboration: Work alongside the school's Wellbeing Team to provide comprehensive support for student health and wellbeing needs. Train and support other Education Support staff who provide First Aid coverage at lunch.Emergency Response Support: Assist in the school's emergency management procedures, providing first aid during crises or urgent situations.Health Plan Assistance: Support the management and implementation of individual health plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis), working in consultation with the Wellbeing Team.Mental Health Support: Provide triage for mental health first aid to students and staff, in collaboration it the Wellbeing Team.Sexual Health Support (Desirable): Provide basic support and guidance to students regarding sexual health matters, in collaboration with the Wellbeing Team and under established protocols, if experience in this area is applicable.All other tasks as directed by the school Principal and Leadership Team.Selection Criteria Qualifications: Hold a current First Aid certification, including CPR and Anaphylaxis qualifications. Healthcare qualifications (e.g. nursing or paramedics) are highly desirable but not required.First Aid Management: Demonstrated experience in providing first aid and managing health incidents in a calm and professional manner.Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, parents, and external health professionals as needed.Organisational Skills: Ability to manage first aid resources, maintain records, and ensure that the school's first aid facilities meet required standards.Commitment to Student Wellbeing: A commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of students and fostering a safe and inclusive school environment.Mental Health & Sexual Health Experience (Desirable): Experience in providing basic guidance or support on mental health and sexual health matters is desirable but not required.Who May Apply Applicants must hold a valid First Aid certification (including CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma management) and a current Victorian Working with Children Check. Experience in sexual health support is desirable but not essential.
