Ongoing opportunity to work for the Victorian Public Service at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct Champion effective and innovative Health Safety and wellbeing practices and programs Empower the team and help drive safety culture and performance About the role… The Safety Manager sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance (SWC), a branch of the People Safety Culture and Communications function in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department). The SWC branch provides process, systems, and services to support the department to meet its responsibilities under health and safety laws ( Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985  and  Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).
This role supports the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct (Cherry Creek)

Cherry Creek reimagines what a custodial facility can be; it is a place where young people can work on getting their lives back on track.
Cherry Creek is in Little River, just off the Princess Freeway. It's an easy drive from many of Melbourne's western suburbs, as well as Geelong. Staff can access onsite parking and cafeteria.
Cherry Creek's features include:
a dedicated health centre and  two mental health units purpose-built buildings to deliver education programs a  recreational centre and  vocational training campus  for trade-specific courses a space for cultural and faith-based programs, including gardens and a yarning cycle energy-efficient design throughout, featuring many recycled materials age-appropriate and  culturally sensitive accommodation and learning environments modern and spacious staff facilities with views of the You Yangs mountain range fully equipped staff gym . As the Cherry Creek Safety Manager, you will… Provide a high level of advice and support to executive and senior leaders to drive cultural safety change to improve safety performance outcomes at Cherry Creek. Influence strategy development and champion the health and safety agenda to manage safety risks in a complex environment, particularly in the areas of psychosocial risk management. Act as a change agent, to mentor, develop and build staff safety, capabilities and competencies. Supervise and guide the day-to-day activities of the safety coordinator on site to ensure quality deliverables are being met. This is a satisfying and challenging position that will see you working collaboratively across SWC and Youth Justice to deliver great safety and wellbeing outcomes for staff at Cherry Creek.
You will be fully supported by a friendly, collaborative and experienced SWC team, and will be provided with the flexibility and autonomy to deliver outcomes.  This role requires 4 days on site with the option of 1 day working remotely.

About You… As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of OHS legislation, compliance codes, codes of practice and regulations and the Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances legislation and regulations. Relevant significant industry experience in occupational health and safety management systems Demonstrated experience in the identification of OHS risks and developing, implementing and evaluating preventative strategies. Demonstrated expertise in consulting with senior leaders and managers in the delivery of key outcomes in health and safety, change management and related workplace improvement initiatives. Demonstrated experience in delivering cultural change in health, safety and wellbeing. Qualifications: Suitably qualified person with a minimum of diploma in occupational/workplace health and safety. Demonstrated extensive experience is desirable. A full and current driver's license is required due to the need to work across different locations.
