Salary $99,872 plus 9.5% superannuation – VPS Grade 5

Duties of the role
This role prepares highly complex private rulings and determines complex objections across all the revenue lines that we administer, including land tax, land transfer duty and payroll tax. Other responsibilities include mentoring and reviewing the private rulings and objection determinations prepared by other staff, and more broadly assisting with other services provided by the Technical Advice and Review Branch.
This role also provides assistance to other staff across the organisation in applying legislation, developing tax policy, conducting litigation and developing content for revenue rulings, publications, staff training, public seminars and our internal knowledge management database.
About the ideal candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying complex legislation.
You will also need excellent analytical skills, be an outstanding communicator with strong negotiation skills, and have the confidence to develop relationships with colleagues and industry representatives. The successful candidate will be required to:
Resolve complex legal matters while juggling competing deadlines.
Handle complex matters from beginning to end.
Mentor colleagues, ensuring high standards and results are maintained through their work on tax technical files.
A relevant tertiary qualification in law, accounting, business or economics will be highly regarded.
