Department purposeA&O Shearman's global restructuring, insolvency and capital solutions group has handled some of the most complex domestic and cross-border matters of recent years.
We act for stakeholders across the capital structure wherever they encounter distress.
Our clients include corporates, boards of directors and management, sponsors, banks, lenders, noteholders, and ad hoc groups.
We also act for contractual counterparties, other creditors, agents, trustees, insolvency officeholders, hedge funds, private equity funds, direct lenders, and CLOs, as well as sovereigns and sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, family offices, and other institutional investors.
Our team acts on a range of matters including liability management exercises, out-of-court and in-court restructurings, new money capital raises, exchange offers and debt exchanges, acquisitions of distressed companies and assets, equity-linked transactions, insolvencies, rescue financings, and litigation risk assessments and mitigation.
We have deep experience of restructuring the full spectrum of financial instruments, from leveraged finance solutions to high yield debt, real estate finance, project finance, structured finance, derivatives, and securitizations.
We deliver practical, innovative, and bespoke solutions to our clients' challenges using the latest restructuring tools and practice, including novel financing and transactional techniques.
We support clients across industries such as energy and natural resources, consumer, retail, financial services, industrials, aviation, and shipping, and our team draws on the firm's unmatched strength in litigation, financial regulation, tax, corporate and M&A, employment, and pensions to deliver end-to-end solutions anywhere in the world.

Role purposeWe are looking for an Australian qualified Lawyer with 2 to 4 years of post-qualification experience to join our restructuring & bankruptcy team in Sydney, on a full-time permanent basis.

Key requirements
2 – 4 year PQE.
Training from a top tier law firm with previous restructuring & bankruptcy experience.
Outstanding academic credentials.
High level drafting and analytic skills.
Resilient self-starter with the intellectual curiosity and versatility to continuously acquire, build upon and share knowledge.
Highly motivated team player with excellent organisational skills.
Clear and concise communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills and a good eye for detail.
Entrepreneurial drive and strong commercial acumen.
