Employment Type: 12-month fixed term full timeRemuneration: Level A: $88,290 - $117,718 (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading)Location: Kensington NSWWhy your role matters: The City Futures Research Centre was established in 2005 to undertake research aiming to develop a better understanding of our cities, their people, the policies that manage their growth, the issues they face and the impact they can make on our environment and economy.
The Centre is hosted by the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture and is based at the University of New South Wales, Kensington campus.

The Postdoctoral Fellow (Urban Analytics) will be a pivotal member of the Housing Analytics Lab (HAL) and the 'Rental Vulnerability in Australia' project, along with other exciting funded initiatives, focusing on analyzing spatial, demographic, and administrative data, developing urban models, creating data visualizations, and implementing AI and machine learning algorithms, all centered on housing data and analytics across Australia, within the innovative environment of the City Future Research Centre.
This position is being offered as full time, with a flexible blend of working remotely and from the vibrant UNSW Kensington Campus.
This role reports to the Centre Director and will work with a dynamic team of data scientists, modellers and computer scientists to deliver a world-class data-driven urban analytics toolkit for Australia.
Accountabilities include: Understanding the housing pipeline through collecting and analyzing planning approval data using spatial analysis techniques and artificial intelligence;Undertaking urban analysis and modelling using tools such as the What if?
Planning Support System to explore future urban growth scenarios of cities and regions;Assisting in the sourcing of data and undertaking data cleaning, analysis, and visualization for the 'Rental Vulnerability in Australia' project;Conducting oral presentations relating to the research;Providing peer review and editing support as a member of the research team and when requested by the Director;Writing project reports to disseminate research outcomes.About you: Your skills and experience include: PhD or experience in a related discipline – data science, modelling and simulation, computer science, geomatics, and/or actuarial;Expertise and skills in data analytical techniques including principal component analysis, geoprocessing, spatial statistics, big data analytics, spatial data mining, and data visualization;Experience in applying artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and other data mining techniques to big (ideally city) data;Advanced computer programming skills, particularly using languages to work with big data including Python and R.To be successful, you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship.
