Details of the offer

About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to support the development, design, construction, commissioning, and operation of renewable energy assets for a leading player in the clean energy sector. The role focuses on a diverse range of projects including solar, battery storage, hydrogen, wind, and biomass/waste-to-energy facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Learn from the Grid Connection Manager (GCM): Shadow the GCM to gain valuable experience in technical, commercial, and contractual aspects of grid connection for our client's renewable energy projects, with a particular emphasis on wind farms. Assist with technical workstreams for new grid connections, including managing the work of specialized consultants.
Contribute to Early-Stage Design: Provide support for the design of wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and solar farms during the crucial early development stages of our client's assets.
Project Documentation and Approvals: Contribute to the preparation of project documentation and approval papers by offering input related to grid connection and technical designs.
Negotiate Favorable Agreements: Assist with the negotiation of network access and connection agreements to secure the best possible terms for our client.
Network Modelling and Safety Focus: Support the GCM with external network modelling work required to obtain grid connection. Uphold a strong commitment to safety and risk management principles.
Technical & Commercial Management Expertise: Lend expertise to the management of technical and commercial activities associated with high-voltage transmission systems (working alongside investment, legal, and finance teams). Provide advice on effective interface management and collaborate seamlessly with both internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge Sharing and Team Development: Play a key role in developing the broader team at our client's company by sharing your knowledge of grid connection and HV designs with relevant teams, including development, delivery, operations, and the broader engineering function.
Risk Management and Support: Offer guidance and support in identifying, evaluating, and managing risks affecting connection and design aspects of development, project delivery, and generation assets. Conduct preliminary assessments of capacity and system strength constraints. Provide technical input for commercial arrangements, including connection costs and schedules.
Stakeholder Engagement: Proactively manage interactions with key stakeholders such as the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs), Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs), and regulators. Build and maintain strong relationships with these stakeholders, as well as investors, other developers, and specialist consultants.
Project Coordination and Completion: Coordinate with the project team to ensure smooth interfaces between connection, generation design, and construction activities. Support the timely closure of connection and access agreements. Assist with grid registration (as required), R2 acceptance, and closeout. Participate in site activities for commissioning and energization of our client's assets.
Qualifications & Skills
Demonstrated experience in specifying, designing, constructing, and operating generation, transmission, and distribution assets.
Understanding of renewable energy project grid integration principles and requirements.
Strong knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) including drivers and risks.
Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER), connection requirements, and the rights and obligations of connecting generators.
Experience developing and implementing engagement strategies for key stakeholders in the renewable energy sector.
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in relevant roles.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience with wind, BESS, and solar projects.
Previous experience in similar projects with a utility, contractor, major equipment supplier, or engineering consultant.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues, engineers, NSPs, regulators, contractors, and stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize effectively.
