Gladstone Hospital, a 79-bed facility in Central Queensland, offers a range of general and specialist services, including emergency, general surgery, obstetrics, high dependency, neonatal care, and paediatrics. Supported by 282 full-time staff, we perform around 1,600 surgeries yearly in three operating theatres and provide critical care in a four-bed High Dependency Unit.
Our Critical Care rotation offers Registrars valuable, hands-on experience across disciplines. This includes six months in Anaesthetics to build skills in airway management, six months in a FACEM-led Emergency Department with leadership opportunities, and an option for a six-month Retrieval Medicine placement. This role is ideal for Registrars seeking diverse clinical experience in a vibrant regional setting.
About the role:The Gladstone Critical Care rotation offers an excellent opportunity for Emergency trainees to gain diverse clinical, procedural and leadership experience and develop their skills across multiple disciplines.
The rotation consists of:
6 months in Anaesthetics: Expand your critical care experience with hands-on experience in airway management and procedural skills. The term is ACEM accredited for 6 months (Anaesthetics – Critical Care). With three operating theatres and a 4-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU), you'll work closely with a small, dedicated team to provide critical care to the region's most unwell patients.6 months in Emergency: Join our team in a modern, FACEM-led mixed regional Emergency Department, treating approximately 36,500 patients annually, including 25% paediatrics. This term provides opportunities for leadership, procedural skill development, participation in quality improvement initiatives, and close support from an experienced team. It also offers the chance to complete your Paediatric logbook and provides TS4 supervision.Option for 6 months in Retrieval Medicine: Subject to mandatory prerequisites and credentialing, participants may opt for an additional 6-month placement in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine.About you:Mandatory qualification/s:MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at Level 3 supervision.ACEM advanced trainee will be preferred.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.What we offer:Salary information: Total remuneration value of up to $169,083 p.a. is comprised of:
