North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra's expanding northside, operating a 24-hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health, and critical care.
Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home, and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.
About the role: The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatient surgical services. The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit, Admissions, specialist surgical ward areas, medical and nursing outpatient services, and Intensive Care Unit.
The Peri-Operative Unit at North Canberra Hospital consists of a Day Surgery Unit (DSU), 7 Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties, and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) together with several out-of-areas procedural/invasive specialty areas.
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) is a unit caring for patients not requiring an inpatient stay. The DSU consists of an admissions/interview space, Stage 2 Recovery (an 8 bed section for post-operative recovery), and a Stage 3 Discharge Lounge (housing 10 recliner chairs) where patients are discharged home following their procedure.
