Location Profile Rangeview Primary School is situated in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Extensive development of our school's facilities and grounds have created engaging and contemporary learning spaces.

Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated experience in effective student record management, First aid assessment and care management.
SC2 Ability to work independently, and to provide advice and support to management in respect to the work area.
SC3 Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to First Aid processes.
SC4 Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents.
SC5 Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others, in the area of First Aid, with a current Level 2 First Aid qualification.
Role The role of the school's First Aid Officer is to work independently providing first aid for students / staff with an illness or injury and ensuring DET procedures and processes are followed. This position is also required to support the administration staff as directed with a responsibility to work co-operatively as part of the team, ensuring a productive and efficient workplace.
The working hours are between 9.00am - 3.30pm, one day per week during the school term. Undertakes routine tasks that are usually carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established and direction is readily available.
Work has little scope for deviation. Problems can usually be solved by reference to well documented procedures and instructions and clearly established practices. Deviation from established procedures will require reference to others for guidance and direction. Assistance is readily available when problems arise. An experienced employee at range 1 will exercise limited judgement within clearly defined guidelines and well established practices that relate specifically to the tasks performed.
Does not carry responsibility for the work of others. More experienced employees will provide basic guidance and advice to others relating to tasks within the work area.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Qualification requirements do not operate at range 1. Certification requirements may be required to legally perform specific tasks - e.g. driver's licence, first aid, safe food handling.
Responsibilities Typical duties of the First Aid Assistant:
Assess and administer first aid to students. Order, store, monitor and administer medication and medical supplies in accordance with the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances legislation. Contact parents, emergency services, allied and community health as required. Liaise with teaching staff regarding any problems/queries about student's medical conditions. Refer to and liaise with other appropriate colleagues (e.g. Principal, SWO) and health professionals as appropriate. Maintain Accident/illness Register and enter data according to DE&T requirements. Prepare and maintain yard duty bumbags, first aid boxes for classrooms as well as excursion/camp first aid kits. Prepare and monitor first aid budget. Maintain first aid supplies, paper and stationery for health centre. Develop procedures and documentation in relation to First Aid duties. Maintain, enter and retrieve data from the school's computer system in relation to first aid. Print and update lists of students and their medical conditions. Liaise with the Student Enrolment Officer to ensure newly enrolled students' medical information is printed/collected and distributed to appropriate staff. Coordinate the distribution of medical care forms/action plans as required, following up with parents to ensure they are completed. Communicate with parents/guardians to ensure that students' medical information is correct and up to date. Maintain and update First Aid policies and procedures. Comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations in work practices and in the maintenance of environment and equipment. Participate where appropriate in meetings relating to health and safety issues. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Maintain filing and archiving system in accordance with school procedures in relation to First Aid. Undertake clerical and word processing duties in support of the school's first aid. Additional duties as required by the Principal and/or Business Manager.
