Queensland Government | Wildlife Officer, Environment And Science

Details of the offer

A Job That Matters A contribution that counts.
Whatever your job with us, you will strive and innovate to achieve a better Queensland.
Our role is complex and our work can be challenging.
But your contribution will count, and so will you.
Why Work for Us?
There are always opportunities for growth and professional development.
Our teams and our working environments are diverse, and so are our people.
We are here to enable long-term, sustainable decisions for the environment and the economy.
It can be a difficult and at times unpopular role - think compliance.
It can also mean balancing your personal ideals with the work that must be done.
But it is work that truly matters, even more so because it's hard.
Your Contribution The following responsibilities are specific to this role:
Support the regulatory compliance activities of Southern Wildlife Operations under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
This includes assisting in responding to complaints from the public, conducting audits of permit holders, and actively investigating reports of the illegal take of native flora and fauna.
Promotion of awareness, appreciation, and understanding of conservation values of native flora and fauna to the public while enhancing their understanding of compliance obligations of the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
We want to ensure that all people can safely and lawfully interact with our native animals.
To Succeed in This Role, You Will Have Four Things in Abundance: Great people skills and an ability to manage yourself in critical situations.
We are primarily a compliance team tasked with conducting face-to-face compliance activities to protect native wildlife and provide advice on wildlife matters to the public.
An ability to work with and handle native animals, including reptiles.
An appetite for and ability to solve complex problems using initiative, collaboration, tenacity, and assist in the implementation of new processes and technologies.
An ability to be a productive, supportive, and reliable team member who can apply critical thinking skills to wildlife management and educational programs.
What Is in It for You?
You will have the opportunity to make a real contribution to protecting Queensland's native flora and fauna.
You will be mentored by experienced leaders to continue to develop your own compliance and animal husbandry/handling skills in the classroom and on the job.
No two days are the same here; regulatory compliance and managing human/animal interactions are ever-changing activities.
South Coast team members regularly travel and work to support other wildlife team members across Southern Wildlife Operation's area of responsibility.
About You You are a self-motivated person with enthusiasm and drive.
You will be able to work within a small but very active high-performing team.
You will measure your own success through your team thriving and kicking goals in a sometimes-challenging environment.
You are a confident communicator able to engage with a wide range of people respectfully and confidently, sometimes under difficult circumstances.
You can provide clear and concise information both verbally and written.
You have regulatory compliance skills, or the ability to quickly acquire them, to support compliance operations under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
You have good animal handling/husbandry skills, or the ability to quickly acquire them.
