It is an independent statutory authority established in 1980 under the Family Law Act 1975.

Our teamThe Communications Team works with stakeholders to help AIFS become the leading source of accessible resources about research and evidence relating to families.
Our aims are to support policy and practice, inform the broader community with research evidence, and influence national conversations about family wellbeing.
To do this, we help translate research and evidence into easy-to-understand materials and publish them via our website and other platforms.
We also promote our research through news media and public events.
We oversee AIFS websites, intranet, social media channels, electronic newsletters and advertising.
We also manage the biennial AIFS Conference and other events.
These events contribute to the sharing and communication of evidence to policy makers, service providers and practitioners, researchers, and community sector organisations.
As part of our external communication efforts, we manage the organisation's reputational risk, government relations and brand identity.
We also manage internal communications, to help build a cohesive and positive culture in which staff are well informed about organisational initiatives, positively engaged and working together.
Position RequirementsThe Publishing Manager and Editor plans and coordinates production schedules; coordinates and supervises the editing, design, illustration and production of publications; and ensures that the publications program conforms with the Institute's publishing policies and brand guidelines.
The Publishing Manager and Editor also edits, proofs and styles AIFS digital and print publications.
The key duties of the position include:Under the direction of the Head of Communications, this position is required to: Lead and manage the publishing team and ensure it delivers high-quality, efficient and timely publishing services.Plan and coordinate production schedules including coordinating and supervising the editing, design, illustration and production of publications.Provide writing advice and review drafts as required by research teams.Provide advice to internal stakeholders on best practice print and digital publishing that meets the needs of our end-users.Undertake structural and copy editing, proofing and styling of digital and print publications.Maintain the AIFS Style Guide, and assure authors' adherence to it.Collaborate with AIFS staff to ensure that AIFS digital and print publications are produced in a timely manner and to a high standard.Champion the use of Plain English and other relevant content standards, including APS writing guidelines and Web Accessibility and Digital Transformation Agency standards.Liaise with authors, project managers and other stakeholders to solve editorial and production issues.Ensure that the APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct, and AIFS' Values and Behaviours are promoted and applied within the workplace.Collaborate with the AIFS Privacy team to incorporate privacy practices into work undertaken within the team.Key Selection Criteria• Professional expertise• Understanding our organisation• Delivering on objectives and achieving results• Relationships and interpersonal skills• Communication• Leadership and management• Values and integrityFor a comprehensive overview of the selection criteria, please see the Position Description for more information.

TermsThe Publishing Manager and Editor role will be offered as a full-time ongoing position at the Executive Level 1 level.
This will be with a salary range of between $112,691 to 124,447 depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant, plus 15.4% superannuation.
